What is Technology Education?
The field that studies technology, teaches students about the processes involved with technology and the knowledge behind it is called technology education. The field of study involves ways in which humans are able to change and shape materials by manipulating them to devices and products that meet our needs. In education, a student studies in order to gain a firm understanding of how technology works and techniques to develop a “technological literacy”. This is accomplished by providing students with field and laboratory work and activities to gain a first-hand account of technological studies. The term technology education is generally shortened and referred to as “tech ed”. The History of Technology in Education Throughout the World: Many countries have evolved their technology education programs as new technological advancements have occurred throughout the world. They have changed through their craft, technical skills, and education through programs such as industrial arts. What is Engineering Technology?
Engineering technology is a field of knowledge in which advanced techniques in mathematics and higher education of science comes together in an effort to improve on existing technology for the benefit of mankind. The education of engineering technology in large part focuses on key aspects of science and engineering to give students the knowledge and techniques to improve currently existing products, manufacture new products, and perform advanced operations within engineering. Education in Engineering Technology in the United States: The Technology Accreditation Commission, a part of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (TAC/ABET), recognizes all programs related to Engineering Technology in the United States. The Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE) also accredits Engineering Technology education within education institutions that offer associate, bachelor and advanced degrees. Only some schools within the field offer advanced degrees. The type of education in engineering technology can vary greatly depending the school that is attended. For instance, ATMAE programs require that a student be versed in management, as opposed to programs accredited by TAC or ABET. Apple Inc. is a technology company specializing in computer technology that eventually branched out into designing and manufacturing other devices to work with their computer products. Apple Inc. was among the first group technology companies that contributed to the development of the personal computer model that everyone is familiar with today. Soon, the technology company saw a long period of decline and market share loss as IBM-compatible computers equipped with Microsoft’s Windows became the industry standard.
